Journal Blog 4, new music, new games, old games, new hobbies, I rawk
Yup well I think it's been too long since you all heard how awesome I am, so lets get right to it.
I recently got into a band called The Builders and The Butchers. They have a really... odd style. It's kinda folk I guess, but all of their music has a really dark undertone, through both the underlying sound and the subject matter. Here's a quick selection of my favorites-

So check them out, you may like them. Everyone I've had listen to them has.
What else? Well new games of course! Always something coming out worth playing, and I've got a ton on my plate. They're still releasing Mass Effect 2 DLC's and they're all awesome. Someday I'll plug ME2 back in and play them, but all the money I have right now is going to Halo Reach. I finally have enough to pay off my pre-order which I am most definitely doing today. And Reach continues to impress. Forge World is massive and will keep me entertained for god knows how long. The theater and forge mode overhauls are greatly appreciated. The campaign looks ri-freaking-diculously awesome. And the best part of all of this for me? I played the beta, I KNOW it's gonna be awesome already, and I have yet to see an announcement for Reach that didn't get me all tingly in unmentionable areas.
Now onto the games I'm skeptical about. Black Ops has moved up a few notches in my excitement scale. They're adding some pretty neat stuff. But until I actually have a hands on experience with it, I reserve judgement. If the gun play feels as 'loose' as it did in WaW, I will be disappointed. My favorite thing that they've done so far is eliminate the Stopping Power AND Juggernaut perks. Now, at first the normal CoD player might be angry with this, but then you think about it. Now we're back to it taking 3-4 bullets to kill people. Not like MW2 where you can 1-2 hit kill people, this giving you basically no time to react to being shot at. It also REALLY opens up the perk options. Now, instead of having to use Stopping Power to be competitive you can really customize exactly how you want to play. A big thing I was talking to Destroyer about is the ability to play a game your way is what makes a game. In Halo, you could basically use whatever you wanted to and still manage to be effective as long as you were skilled. While this does carry over a little bit in all games, Halo really does it well, as do games like TF2, Monday Night Combat, etc. These games let YOU play YOUR way. In MW2, while the options were basically endless for what combinations of perks/weapons/attachments you could use, there were only really a few ways to be effective. In other words, the game makes you play a certain way to be effective, which is something I wholly disagree with. For example, compare CoD4 and MW2. In CoD4, the average break down of guns being used in a game was kinda like this: 3-4 guys with assault rifles, 2-3 guys with SMGs. 2-3 guys sniping, 1-2 guys with LMG's. The reason you had such a diverse weapon spread is that all the gun types were pretty effective when used in the correct manner. Now, in MW2, it's more like 6-7 guys with assault rifles (and half those with grenade launchers), 1-2 guys with SMGs, 2-3 guys sniping, and 1-2 guys using the LMG's. The reason for this being, list the most effective weapons in the game, and likely you'll name off a lot of ARs, M16, FAMAS, SCAR, TAR 21, ACR, AK47, all these guns are super powerful. Aside from this, the only SMGs you really see is the UMP, and the only LMG the AUG or RPD. Then you have the pandemic of Tac Knife run runners, people in every game trying to quick scope, newb toobers, the list goes on. Also Wager Mode looks interesting, but it will cause a lot of rage.
Damn, I didn't want to go on another MW2 rant, but there it is. So anyway, BO looks better in my eyes, but I'm still a lot more excited for Reach. The other game I was trying to get to before I went off on another MW2 trip was FireFall. Now usually I hate being subscribed to Machinima on youtube as they fill 90% of my sub box with chaff and shitty videos, but occasionally I'll find a vid that I really like. I mean, it's from Machinima that I found SeaNanners and got really turned on youtube commentators in general. This was one of those occasions. I found the cinematic trailer for FireFall, and it kinda resembles what StarCraft Ghost may of looked like, but it's waaaay too early to start making assumptions. So anyway, while the concept looks kinda dull, and the trailer is kinda weird, I'm a sucker for sci-fi shooters. Here, have a link.
As for games I'm playing right now, CoD4 is a solid old warhorse. Every time I put in CoD4 I have a fun time. The only problem is of course that it's old. There's been no new content since forever. So the only times I can play it for a long period is when I have a large group of friends to talk and joke with. Then I can play CoD4 all night. Of course this is getting harder as I only have 2-3 friends who are still avid CoD4 players with everyone else going off to new games or losing interest. Can't blame than =/
I'm sloooowly starting to enjoy MW2 again, which is a bit of a feat because I am a social gamer for sure. I need people to play with to have a good time. But I find it hard to have that good time when playing with clan mates. Nothing against anyone in any of the MW2 sections, but 75% of the people I used to play with have moved on, and getting to know a whole new group of friends with new jokes, sayings, etc, it's hard to do and still have a blast. So I've been playing a lot by myself. The way I've been keeping it fun is by using pretty much only shotguns. I consistently get 25+ kill games using only 3-4-5 kill streaks which is something I'm very proud of. The Striker is still bauss, and I've started to use it more now that I've gotten extended mags for it again. But the Spas 12 + Marathon and Lightweight still rules over all. That class is just so much fun. Oh and AUG HBAR is just as beast as I remember it.
And there's NavyField of course, but nobody cares about that xD
One of the things I've really started to enjoy, and I'm not afraid to say it lol, is watching high level StarCraft 2 broadcasts. It's like watching nerd football and it amuses the hell out of me. The guys I recommend you check out if interested are of course the 2 big ones on youtube, HDStarCraft and HuskyStarCraft. But there's tons of other. Ahnaris does a lot of strategy videos, map building tutorials, and challenge videos, but also 'casts a lot of gameplay. AskJoshy is the easiest commentator to watch as he usually fits entire games into one video, and if he isn't able to, he links you to the next part at the end of the first, something most other commentators don't do making it hard to watch multipart games as you have to search for each and every part. PsyStarCraft can be good, even though he's not the best commentator, he usually has some funny quips, and he 'casts a lot of his own top tier games which is kinda cool.
Also there's MineCraft. Which is a simple but very in depth game in it's own rights. If you want to see a video journal of a guys first time playing MineCraft that I found very enjoyable, check out X's Adventures in MineCraft on this channel.
Finally, I won a Kill Your Killer tournament at that melee thing I do. Meaning basically that I beat every person taking part in the fight at least once. Those of you that are friends with my on Facebook know what I'm talking about, for those of that don't, add me fools.
Well I think that's all for this update. See you all around.
