WN Fund Donations

I'd like to give my two cents on a subject that's got people talking recently: WN's low cash reserve. Without far more donations: WN cannot continue to operate as it currently does. This isn't a far off problem, either, we won't make it far past the new year if the problem isn't rectified and if we don't sort it immediately then we won't have enough leeway to sort it again if it does become a problem. The buffer we're eating into at the moment is crucial, we can't afford to wait until it runs out.
Clearly, then, the time to act is now. How exactly to act is where people are struggling, though. I don't have much to offer on the subject but I do have a couple of ideas.
The server costs are how they are because we need that level of server. However, since our member base has been dwindling: perhaps we can downgrade and save ourselves some rental without losing functionality? Let's not forget we're now way down on numbers compared to how we have been. This thread illustrates that exceedingly well. You can scroll down to the bottom for a graph that shows it best.
The second idea I have is to bring back the donation threads. For those of you that don't remember: when you donated to WN, you used to get a thread put up in Clan Discussion that praised you for your donation. Whist these threads generally turned out to be a 'postcount +1' spamfest, I believe they also illustrated that people were committed to the cause, and provided people with regular reminders to donate. Since they were discontinued, I believe there has been a massive drop in the amount of donations we have seen.
So, what do you think?

The social groups have always been free I believe as they are included with the board now and the blogs were a one-time purchase, not a recurring cost. Therefore, there's no money to be saved through cutting them out.Posted 10-31-2009 at 01:39 PM by WNxHollow
