Department Reorginization - Dev/BO
As of today/tonight BO is no longer a stand alone department. It will be apart of Development. This does NOT mean that BO and Dev are merged. There will now be a Competitive Gaming section of Development. Competitive Gaming will still be a global thing, not just for Development sections.

There will be a fourth Colonel in Development just for CG. It will be WNxDarkAngel. He is the best man for the job obviously because he is now the Former BG of BO. He will have 3 'Operators' under him. Yes this is a new tag but it is reformed from the old Commissioner tag. Same purpose, new name. Until Wakko makes the new tag, we will be using Dev Engineer tags.

With that being said, the requirements for the Commissioner spot carry over to the Operator spot.

Operator
In charge of overseeing four or more section Battle Ops Captain/Honor Guards to ensure they have the tools, resources, skills and knowledge to be successful in organized gaming.
Authority to make a decision on a match that cannot be confirmed or when there is a dispute.
Search for, establish and maintain section/global Alliances with suitable clans/guilds.
Ensure that the sections are creating valid and viable alliances with other clans.
Communicates all clan wide activities.
Responsible for updating the Diplomacy page.
Collects activity reports from their Battle Operations team via PM and consolidates them into a single report on a monthly basis.


Right now there are 3 Development Colonels. With this change there will be a fourth slot added to the Dev roster that will be solely in charge of CG. The CG part of Development will be separate but the same. That may sound confusing but just think about it for a minute and you will get it.

Now i think that is everything that i am supposed to be covering. Questions are more than welcome. If i am told of something i have forgotten or just remember something i will update this post as well as answer with a new post.

The first three Operators will be appointed, after we get an application worked out, we will implement it in the decision making process.

It's intriguing to say the least... I don't see why CG should been under Dev's reign when it is meant for all the sections. I love that there are less admins now, but I am confused why you guys put something global under Dev. It seems like it is out of place.

I can agree with that however, we feel that if CG is implemented in a section at the start of its life in WN than its easier to just continue with it once it leaves development. Besides, there are no other departments that it even closely relates too. We were looking to cut admin's and tags and BO was the place to do it.

Will development sections even be brought in with CG? I am not entirely sure I even buy that. If BO was such a nuisance to WN as a whole, why not just scrap the whole god damn thing? I personally, don't understand this change at all. 1 admin and a small team will be VERY UNSUCCESSFUL trying to control and develop and maintain various sections and games MOST of them DONT even play. So why even bother keeping it?

And if you do in fact keep this small remnant of "battle ops" - Where is the forum going? What is it going to be called? Is it just going to be moved into a subforum of Development?

Battle Ops for the past year+~ has produced some of the best admins (in my very own opinion). Those admins, unlike some other ones, do not deserve their tag to be cut and lost just because the Battle Ops department is seemingly unsuccessful and useless. Currently, there are a handful of admins that I would consider "mediocre" at best, and some of the BO admins exceeded expectations. If you look through Battle Ops history, we've had MANY commissioners become admin and do a kick ass job. The administration of BO did a great job making their commissioners into leaders and at the same time getting their standard workload done.

R.I.P. Battle Ops Department. To everyone who did a helluva job that was in the BO department (as commissioners) at the end of this fiasco, I am truly sorry. You deserve a leadership position more than half the people currently in seat. Personally, I believe some of you should apply for SF admin positions when spots open.

It is a bit of a shell game I guess. Sticking BO into Dev seems a bit artificial, as they are going to be pretty autonomous anyway. So I don't see that part of it being a big deal, good or bad, in and of itself.

However, the big danger that I see there is Dev potentially losing it's focus. As of now they are supporting 3 (or 4) mid-level tags (operator, miner, engineer and in in a way game champion). I assume that some form of gaming group will be formed here soon too. Toss that into the mix as well and you'll have quite the witch's brew.

So on one hand I like that BO is getting streamlined. On the other hand I'm not thrilled to see it going to Dev. I think Special Forces would have been a better fit for it. Ditto with Gaming Groups should they ever get formed -- they will would probably be a better fit in SF.

Dev is quite good at what they do so far -- Research and Development. It is a specialty group and I'd like to see them remain specialists in those two fields. Because I would hate to see a good thing go bad by them taking on too much, and morph into generalists. It seems kind of risky when SF is available for things like that, and as generalization seems to be SF's bread and butter.

Just my thoughts in the matter. I am curious tho if that option was discussed at all, and if so, why the decision was made not to send BO to SF?

I say Dev and BO are finely matched together. We're about the only 2 depts working purely about gaming, not graphic, not radio, not IS ppl, we game.

Disagree with this through and through.

It is one thing to shut down BO. It was inevitable with the switch to CG, and I mourn the loss of a great department I was once proud of. It is not easy seeing the hard work of many since its inception go completely down the drain...but who are we kidding that hard work was all lost when BO went the way of CG. That was when BO truly died. Good bye, Battle Operations. Good bye externally encouraging activity within sections. Good bye to a rank, the purpose of which was to seek out other members and clans of the gaming community and introduce them to WN through friendly, not necessarily competitive, interaction. Good bye to the department that was meant to provide fun and entertainment in the context of WN, beyond the fun one has just playing the game alone


But putting CG into dev? That is just ludicrous. Look around, Pent. We've dropped 500 members since our peak. That should be alarming. And putting CG into development will detract potential members to WN. The people that just want to game, the base of WN, will be scared away from developing sections by the presence of CG and all its connotations. And trying to attract new members for CG? Good luck with that one, competitive players above all will see what WN is and either not join at all or leave soon after joining.
