To get added to the Steam group, just send a PM to WNxJimmyHoffa with your Steam user name.
As for the Xfire Group, just visit http://www.xfire.com/clans/wnxfortress/ and there should be a link on the left that allows you to apply or join. Make sure you're logged in the website when trying to do that.
ff is an official release already, only tf2 is in beta, though it's hard to say whether they'll keep it going for 3 weeks until the official release or end it in a week or two.
