This looks more badass everytime I see something on it haha.

Is this currently possible in game? Or is it a coming soon thing?

Not currently in, just a sample of what will be in the game eventually. Right now the only thing you can really do is free-fly, a Vanduul swarm simulator, racing, or instanced dog-fighting.

The live presentation was cooler and had a much better feel to it, despite terrible camera work and a bug in getting the tali working after they captured it. To get a real sense of how this scene is supposed to play out, you should watch both.

Yeah I did. The narration also provides some nice insight into what was going on.

That actually wasn't a bug. They are designing the game so that all the systems on a ship and probably a station can take so much damage that they become completely inoperable. That is why every, at least every multi crew, ship is going to have repair drones.
Chris said this is something he wanted in the game early on.
Problem is they don't have them in the game yet, so they had no way to repair the engines on the retaliator.

Thanks, Kris, for the clarification. I thought something along those lines had happened since Chris kept complaining that too much damage had been done to the Tali. But I'd love for a mission like that to play out with a Tali that couldn't be moved under its own power. Then if you were the salvager, I guess you'd either have to call a friend to bring you the right parts or a larger ship that could take it onboard.

I don't know if its going to go to the point of having to replace parts "Roadside" but the repair bots should be able to get you limping home at least.

They've also said repair bots are required to steal ships. If you cut the hull/hatch open to forcefully board, you won't be able to get very far with a depressurized ship.

Well, I'm ok with situations where you mess something up or something messes you up to the point where you just can't get your ship home without outside assistance. Or your go after a wreck only to discover that it's so far gone that only a Reclaimer can do anything with it. Think about how rare it's going to have to be to find abandoned ships that you can get working. If it was common, everyone would have full hangars in no time. I'm ok with the process being difficult and requiring lots of teamwork.

I think the missions that they were demoing aren't going to actually let you keep the ship, but I could be wrong.

I know in piracy, the difficult part is the boarding process rather than getting the ship back. In order to board a ship you need a collar (correct size for the ship) and tractor beam, which use up weapon slots. You also have to take down shields and destroy all the engines, including the maneuvering thrusters, without destroying the ship. If you've played Arena Commander you know how easy it is to destroy a little ship if you're shooting it. And then if you can successfully do that and dock, then you have to fight your way onboard, get through the booby traps, and kill the crew before they just hit the self destruct button.

So for piracy at least, flying it back is the last of your issues.

Yea Piracy might be a drop your cargo or we will blow you up like a lot of people did in eve.
Although they have stated that there will be derelict ships that you could potentially find repair and keep out in the world, that specifically mentioned the Bengal Carrier, so why not other ships down even to the single seat fighters?
