WIndows 8 Anyone?
So who tried the preview of the Windows 8? I am not liking where they are going with the icons. (As in you see in Windows Phones) I do like the Game options they have in Windows 8. Oops wrong forum for this thread too lol. I know better to switch this over but oh well.

I am just wondering who's all up for it?

I don't care for it. It looks stupid. Maybe once there is more info on it I guess.

I've tried the Consumer Preview in my virtualbox, I dislike the fact that the Start button is gone and I really don't like the icons aswell.

I'm hoping they separate Windows 8 into like a Tablet form and a Desktop/Laptop form. That's just me, though.

People already have Start Menu addons for the preview. No start menu? No thanks.

THANK YOU ALL! HAHA YOU ALL READ MY MIND

Thats what I thought from you all.

1. No Start Menu (Was told there is a way to do it but can't get it to do it on Preview)
2. Windows 8 Phone OS? (Eww...) Don't get me wrong I love the Windows Phone but for PC? Heck no..
3. Too many customizations. Makes me want to run pure Linux from now on..
4. We just have to see what gets updated this year. I was told it will be released around Winter time or October as usual when 7 got released.

Microsoft is way too focused on their touch screens...

Overall conclusion: Still sticking with Win 7

I don't like how they don't have a Start menu. Maybe for the non touchscreen OS they will put it in, but its highly unlikely.

Staying with 7.

It's optimized for Tablets/Touch screens imo. No start menu is a big no-no. It's just awkward having to move the mouse to the side of a screen to do something, and with a dual-screen setup it's near impossible to do some things.

Well after trying it again on one of my laptops, it is cool and such but the start menu does have to be there. At least I have access to control panel from the desktop. It seems that Microsoft is moving towards a new operating system where we don't have to go through the major clutter to find programs. I am not use to that because I am use to a clean desktop.

Read my thread next time. I already mentioned that its on the wrong forum so its moved now

I already know how to swap it to desktop and such. I am actually going to continue with this project on my 4th laptop and do some performance tests and such. When they release the RC Version, I will be doing HDD testing with SSD's, MSSD's and other drives.

I was gonna move it anyway if it hadn't been done already.

Keep in mind that some of the early stuff from Windows 7 was exactly the same. I remember seeing a few previews and thinking 'well fuck, looks like I'm sticking to XP for another 4 years' and we ended up with the W7 we know and love.

they are making it more easier for the consumer who are not too tech savvy being able to access programs and being able to install programs a lot easier. They are dropping how many clicks to get a program to install and access to the program itself.

Its a good 50/50 for some people it seems. I am actually starting to like it a little more. You just have to play around with it for a long time to get a feel. Its a whole new structure that is for sure

Played with it for about five minutes. Not sure if any of the features justify a complete reinstall (and purchase).

I don't think I'll mind completely skipping 8, I skipped Vista with no problems...

You can't blame Microsoft for adapting to the changing market, in fact it would be ridiculous if they didn't change up at all. Windows 7 is configured for a business build, where its use is practical and focuses on authorship software to design and publish - while still catering for entertainment. Windows 8 is definitely driven towards the entertainment side of things though, yet it is the opposite as it may also cater for the productivity side of things but it is not the primary purpose.

Nah, they've done a lot of work behind closed doors. Too bad it's not open source so we can see it and fix it's bugs and security vulnerabilities.

Its been getting better after doing a lot of adjustments. I do like the new design now which I was able to switch to Desktop design. Amarines is right. This is mostly a entertainment type of OS so far but I feel you guys will get a better feel when it goes RC.

In my book it is good but as always I don't need to upgrade Windows at this moment. My 64 bit windows is pretty much solid.
